I wasn't born in the State, but I've come to love Michigan's vibrant green Summers. Coming from water-starved, brown California, it's such a joy to be surrounded by lush vegetation and fresh water!

Michigan (, roughly ?mi-shi-g?n or MI-shih-ginn) is a Midwestern state of the United States of America, located in the east north central states, as defined by the United States Census Bureau. It was named after Lake Michigan, whose name is a French adaptation of the Ojibwe term mishigami, meaning "large water" or "large lake".

How Do You Show Where You Live In Your State?

When we first moved from California, it took us awhile to 'get' that people were showing us a particular point of interest or where they lived when they pointed to a spot on their right hand. We thought this was pretty funny, but it finally made sense once we figured it out.

While in high school, my daughter was asked where in California she had lived. Knowing that Michiganders refer to body parts when responding to that kind of question, she extended her right arm, elbow bent slightly upward and said "there", pointing to a spot just above the outside elbow (San Luis Obispo).
