I will rate lenses based on the quality of the lens. I will not give out 5 stars willy-nilly. There are literally thousands of lenses that need rating and there is enough room for more raters. If you would like to submit your "completed" lens, feel free. Below you will find the criteria for what I consider a completed lens. This isn't the Gestapo, but it is a group for rating lenses that I have started, so naturally I will set the guidelines as others have done in their groups.
Thanks for coming and I hope you are satisfied by what you find here. If not, too bad...NO! I'm only kidding. Let me know what you think. If its reasonable, well, so am I (except where requirements are concerned). Continue to read below as I will explain how I will set this up for both experienced lensmasters and new lensmasters.
Lens Requirements
Lenses are NOT created equally
Every lens is different right? Of course, that is why Squidoo is what it is. The very uniqueness is what makes it work. I will treat each lens for submission "basically" the same way Squidoo does. Below are the requirements that I could think of that make a lens a quality lens.1. It needs to be complete:
(A) Complete for me is not complete for you. You may have only a few modules in your lens and that is all you wanted or needed to complete your lens. I can appreciate that, however, based on the "quality of content" and "quantity of content" of that lens, I will decide if the lens has enough of "both" to be considered complete.
(B) Please do not submit a lens with unedited modules, because I will reject it. Be sure and check and delete the unfinished module. Then submit the lens. I will not reject a lens if it has only two or three modules for reasons I stated above.
(C) Grammar and spelling: I do not profess to being an English major or professor. But I'm not a dim-wit either. If you suffer from poor grammatical and/or spelling skills then use Word or some equivalent to proof your documents before adding them to your lens. I won't shoot down a lens for a typo or one or two missed spelled words, but they will be rated accordingly. And I will always tell you why. As I would have you do for me as well.
(D) I would have everyone rate each other the same way. Consistency is key in a group such as this so folks will always know where they stand. So if you come across a lens created by me, of course you would automatically give me 5 stars right?...Hell no! Rate me the same way I have explained things here. I will not submit a lens for rating unless it has passed my own standards of completeness.
(E) Which brings me to the next thing: I would like to create different levels for folks to submit their lenses to. For example; if a new lensmaster wants to submit a lens, then I would like for that person to be able to submit their lens accordingly, and be rated as such. I could not in good conscience rate a new lensmaster based on the same standards as one who is experienced and may have many lenses under their belt. It wouldn't be fair, and I would hope others would take that into consideration as well.
That is really all I could think of to begin with. If you can think of something I missed then by all means let me know.
I hope you will find fair and balanced rating here.
What do you think?
Have I missed something? Here you can let me know if I missed something or if you think I'm off my rocker in the way I will rate the lenses. I probably won't change much but at least you will get it off your chest. Then again, if you say it in the right manner and not tell me I'm a stupid so and so, it might get changed. But, no matter what you think...be tactful. There is no need for flaming here.

Great idea. It should help us new lensmasters get started. I'm always up for constructive criticism. I'm going to submit my first lens; I hope all of you like it. Posted June 18, 2008 |
