International Travel Health Insurance

When most people plan to travel out of the country, whether it's for business or pleasure, they usually do a great job of planning every aspect of the trip. Unfortunately most people forget one important aspect—travel health insurance coverage. It's an easy mistake to make since the goal of most travel is usually positive. No one wants to think that they may have to make a trip to a foreign doctor for Montezuma's revenge, or a car accident in a complicated traffic circle. (You may have only been thinking about illness, but accident health insurance when you travel is just as important).

Yet once it happens is not the time to wish that travel health insurance to cover illness and injury had been purchased. When you're thinking about purchasing international travel health insurance you might want to consider whether you will be making multiple trips or how long you're going to be staying. If you will be going in and out of the country, health insurance options for multi trip travel are available. If you're only going once, let the length of your stay be your guide when selecting a term health insurance while you travel. There are options for both short term and long term coverage.

Many people will consider health insurance for overseas traveling. It makes sense if you are traveling to India, the UK, or Australia to get travel health insurance. You will be flying over the ocean to a far away land, with potentially different food, customs, and intestinal critters—not to mention definitely different driving conditions. But even if you're hopping across the border to Canada it is wise to consider travel health insurance. You're health plan probably will not cover you there unless you have a special rider.

One group of people who almost always get international health insurance when they travel are those who study abroad. Usually the university, study program, or host country will have a requirement regarding health insurance for international student travel. These students may have deep pocket financiers, but usually have options for cheap travel health insurance as well.

When you're looking for specialized insurance, it's wise to consider a travel health insurance association to find a travel health insurance company to meet your needs. Use Google, a travel agent, or even references from friends when selecting foreign travel health insurance, to make sure, in the event of accident or illness, your dream vacation or business trip doesn't turn into a further nightmare.

Travel Resources

Foreign Currency
If you're traveling abroad, it's a fair bet that you'll be consulting the exchange rates to see how far your pounds will go. Exchange rates are available for all currencies across the world, and usually change on a daily basis, which is why it's a good idea to shop around for the best exchange rates before you travel. Often, the rates offered at airports are less favourable than those you might get at a dedicated exchange rate bureau, and it's certainly better to exchange your money before you travel than to use your credit card to take money out of an ATM in your destination country, which can attract both unfavorable exchange rates and additional bank charges. Check for exchange rates in the financial pages of your paper, or keep an eye on online sites, where you may also be able to buy your foreign currency with no commission charges.
