What is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a method of promoting web businesses in which an affiliate is rewarded for every visitor, subscriber, customer, and/or sale provided through his/her efforts. It is a modern variation of the practice of paying a finder's fee for the introduction of new clients to a business. Compensation may be made based on a certain value for each visit (Pay per click), registrant (Pay per lead), or a commission for each customer or sale (Pay per sale), or any combination.

Tiffany Dow's 30 Day Squidoo challenge is finally over. I finished 2nd and Jasman finished first. As I write this, his lens has climbed to #11 in all of Squidoo land and is destined for the top 10 tomorrow or this weekend.
One of the things to make sure you have solid is your affiliate tracking. One of the products I promoted last month didn't. Now I get an email telling me I earn $170, but the backend system shows less than $100. I asked the site owner what gives and have not yet had a response...

Day Job Killer, Do You Believe The Hype?
Maybe You Should, We're Still Testing It...
One of the promotions that is getting a lot of noise in the forum is Bum Marketing. That is until today when Day Job Killer was launched.
Like any good product launch, my email box has been filling up all day with special bonuses and the like promoting this new ebook. The launch special price was set to $77, which is an odd price we don't see too often. We normally see $27, $47, $67, or $97. I was wondering what is he thinking?
But if you consider his last ebook sold 6,000 copies if he is making $10 more per copy by offering it at $77, that is $60,000 more in volume. $10 is starting to sound like a big deal. As an affiliate, the commission is pretty sweet, with the affiliate making the lion share. Of course there is an OTO with Affiliate Project X, so if your not one of the 6,000 that already bought it, here is your chance again.
I skimmed the ebook, this afternoon, and what I have seen is really good. However, if you are a marketer, that buys everything that comes along and never does anything with it, save your money and learn to focus. However, if you already bought Project X and loved it, your going to love this one even more.
It is very high quality, to the point instruction. Some things, you probably already know, but for whatever reason most of us are not following through with them. There are also some very sneaky tactics, that I am sure you haven't heard of before.
Bottomline...
I recommend Day Job Killer for anyone that is looking to gain an edge in their online business promoting affiliate products. There isn't another ebook author out there that writes like Chris revealing the "straight to the bone" tactics used by the six figure gurus.
You can get your copy at:

UPDATE:
I have started to apply some of the tactics from Day Job Killer, an dcurrently have some campaign nuking in adwords test campaings. I'll keep you posted how this test goes. in the meantime, get the ebook and start running your own tests...

The age-old system of getting people to your internet site was getting on the front page of Google or Yahoo and waiting for folks to search for your websites keywords. Less emphasis is being put on search engines, nowadays and more emphasis is being put on social bookmarking web pages. What is a social bookmarking website you ask. Social Bookmarking sites are a program where users cache lists of Internet information, which they find good. These lists are obtainable to the public and others with equivalent interests. The lists of subjects are tagged with keywords that relate to the keywords of the material called "tags". This structure has many advantages over normal search engine methods. All information and websites that are cataloged with tags is accomplished by human beings who understand the content and not some search engine trying to figure out subjects of material through computer programs.
To spotlight the magnitude of social bookmarking internet sites I want to impart a true example and testimony that actually happened to me. I wrote an article a few months back on the subject of lucid dreams and submitted the article to the social bookmarking site Digg.com. The story became very much acclaimed with over 2000 votes, and it made the first page of the site. Some of the results I recognized for the story making the first page of Digg:
-> 18,000 hits to my site in one day (As a rule I averaged 85 per day).
-> $80.00 in adsense profits that same day.
-> #11 in Google for a keyword with over 1.2 million competing websites within 2 weeks.
The next thing that you need to become accustomed with is Tag and Ping. Tagging is a fairly new action to categorize information on the Internet. A tag is a pure and simple but brief description of what the material within that tag is about. For instance if a member goes to one of the social bookmarking websites and searches for the tag "dog training", then all of the content on that website having to do with dog training will emerge.
So you can see the potential of social bookmarking sites, also nicknamed Web 2.0 for it's emphasis on the cooperativeness and involvement of the members of the internet sites. If you have a website or Blog that you would like to drive visitors to, don't underrate the power of social bookmarking.

10 Of The Best RSS Tips
by Danny Wirken
1. Use the RSS initially as an end-user.
The first step in any worthwhile activity is understanding the intricacies of how it works. It would be impossible to fully comprehend anything without having the benefit of actual experience in using it. One can get an RSS aggregator as there is a variety of providers to choose from. Among the most popular and highly recommended are My Yahoo!, Bloglines, Firefox and NetNews Wire. Subscribing to other RSS feeds can immediately hasten the learning process.
2. Set up a plan for your RSS feeds.
Planning one's RSS feeds is very important since it can be used for various purposes of the user. An RSS feed may be needed for e-zines, news section and articles. Other opportunities available in RSS includes follow-up RSS feeds, feeds for affiliates, feeds for employees or business partners, feeds for the media and many others. A technology that is capable of such diverse application requires organization and order.
3. Make a list of RSS Marketing Requirements.
There are several basic questions that need to be taken into consideration when you push to publish your feeds. Some of which includes whether RSS publishing is to be integrated with existing content management system, whether your feed requires personalization particularly the RSS content or whether you would want to provide subscribers with the ability to select the content they would prefer to receive. Other considerations are the RSS metrics desired, the host of the feeds and the budget.
Marketing and publishing tools come in a few general categories namely desktop feed generation tools, hosted on-line RSS publishing solutions, advanced RSS marketing solutions plus a few other options. Desktops software is relatively inexpensive and is quick and easy to use in generating RSS feeds but generally does not allow for more advanced features. A basic hosted on-line RSS publishing solution can be chosen to avoid being bothered by a desktop tool and the constant upload of your RSS feeds to your server. The more advanced RSS marketing solutions which include additional capabilities such as metrics, scheduled autoresponder messages, database building capabilities and the like. Other options would include the use of an existing content management system to publish RSS feeds or a blog publishing solution.
5. Be sure to promote your RSS feeds through your own channels.
This is best done through the creation of an RSS presentation page which should contain an explanation of what an RSS is, the benefits to be expected from it use, recommendation of a free RSS aggregator, the manner of subscribing to these feeds and the reason why people should subscribe to your RSS feeds. The same page can also include the links to all your other RSS feeds as well as direct links for subscriptions to relevant services. This page is to be promoted as much as possible in all available channels such as the e-zine subscription box, e-mail messages and e-zine issues. For more than one published RSS feed, each can be promoted next to their topics on the site. It should be remembered that nothing is more effective than a compelling copy in convincing people to subscribe.
6. Promote your feeds as well through external channels.
This can be done by submitting your feeds to appropriate search engines and directories where the best lists are found. The RSS aggregator sites should be pinged every time an update is done to the on-line content. Your feed content can also be syndicated to other web media.
RSS as one of the potent marketing channels needs to be used to leverage the most out of its format. Allowing others to take your RSS feed and use it to refurbish your news in their homepage will work to your advantage. In fact, it should be encouraged by providing short stories or simple explanations of how easy it is to search, filter and aggregate content from various RSS feeds as well as create dedicated news channels.
8. People who adopt RSS are in it primarily for the information.
No one in particular would want to adopt RSS. The people who do are in it for the timely information they get in a controlled and organized way that helps them become better either at their work or their personal life. The tremendous volume of information and news available through RSS is very hard to ignore.
9. RSS, Blog, E-zines and E-mail can work together.
Most marketers still depend mostly on e-mail as their key marketing and communication tool. However, getting e-mail through is becoming increasingly difficult due to spam filters and spam itself. RSS has become the essential element to e-mail delivery at a time where many Internet users choose to ignore e-mail subscriptions and subscribe only to RSS content. Blogs and e-zines are concerned with the content and what is published on-line. RSS and e-mail are concerned with getting the information to the reader. One is not intended to replace the other but rather to work hand in hand together,
10. Use RSS potential for providing value in market research.
RSS holds much potential when it comes to its capability in reaching new customers. However, the best approach is to walk carefully rather than running head-on as there is much danger in over-hyping this medium. Patience would be a required virtue especially for companies that have sophisticated reporting systems. Advertisers should refrain from the annoying practice of placing an ad after every item. They would do well to observe the best practice guidelines for RSS advertising.
It likewise promises to give its users complete control over their content consumption. They even have the option to unsubscribe from content they do not wish to receive. Breaking news is received as it becomes available. There is absolutely no need to wait for worrisome recaps sent to their e-mail addresses.
RSS makes possible the certainty of receiving the content users would want without the inconvenience brought about by spam filters. It also has the ability to receive content directly to desktops including audio and video content. To sum it up, RSS provide the tool that makes the user's lives so much easier with its important advancements that can change how Internet content is consumed.

12 Killer Rules for Choosing an Affiliate Product That Really Sells
by Ari Krizsan
Here is a list of the key factors that will help you in how to choose the right affiliate product to promote.
1. Site related product:
It goes without saying that you should choose products or services that match your website's or blog's theme.
2. Commission rate:
Some vendors offer very high rates compared to other affiliate programs. If it is above 20 % then you should give it a try.
3. Price:
Of course you should also know what the commission base is. If you promote a $19,95 ebook and get 75% you earn $14,96 for each book you sold. But if you promote a $156 software with 40% commission, you put $62,4 into your pocket after each sale.
Take a look at the vendor's website, sales letter and other promotional stuff there. If you were a potential customer would you want to buy what he is about to sell? Is the sales letter convincing? Does the layout of the website look professional, or is it cheap and amateurish? You should consider all these questions before you send visitors to a vendor's site because if you are not satisfied with what awaits you at the landing page, then how can you expect it from your visitors?
5. Reliability of the product:
If you have no personal experience with the product, go to message boards and read reviews or opinions of the product from people who have used it already. To locate related message boards search for 'message board' and 'the product's name' in search engines.
6. Reliability of payment:
With reputable affiliate networks reliability is not really an issue. Payment methods and periods are set in the general terms of service. With affiliate programs run by individual companies or with less known affiliate networks it can happen that they don't pay. Before joining any of these affiliate programs do your home work! Ask around on affiliate marketing message boards and find out about other webmasters' experiences with the company.
7. Demand for the product:
Do people buy this product? Is it a 'hot' niche? It is much more profitable to go for popular products than goods for which the target group is too narrow.
8. Two-tier and multi-tier affiliate programs:
Some vendors offer you to pay for sales that were made by you indirectly. That means if another webmaster signs up to the program through your affiliate link, you will be entitled to a commission after this person's sales, too. While some internet gurus advise you to choose two-tier (or multi-tier) programs if possible, experience shows that you won't earn much through these indirect sales. Unless you have a huge opt-in list and are considered a 'guru' or expert yourself in the subject area you operate in. Why is that? The problem with two-tier programs is that affiliates - especially newbies - will promote the program instead of the product. They will hope to make money through their 'sub-affiliates' and neglect to promote the product itself. And those who sign up through him will think similarly. So while there will be a long line of sub-affiliates, no one will really make a sale and no one will make money!
The operating of affiliate programs are based on cookies. Cookies are simple scripts that track the visitor's path. They help in identifying through which affiliate ID a visitor came to a vendor's site and which affiliate should be paid a commission for after the visitor's purchase. At some sites cookies are set for 24 hours. This means the visitor has to make a purchase within 1 day starting from the moment he arrived at the vendor's website through your affiliate link. If he buys something 2 days later you lose commission for that sale. The longer period cookies are set for, the better. Some programs offer 30-day tracking periods, some a whole year, and there are even lifetime commission affiliate programs. That means if a visitor came through your affiliate link and bought a product or service at the vendor's site, this customer is yours forever. If he makes new purchases in the future, you will be paid after these sales, too.
10. Pay out minimum:
Usually there is a threshold that affiliates have to reach to be paid. (In most cases it is $100, but it's not a general rule.) If you don't reach this limit within a payment period, the sum will be held back and carried over to the next payment period as long as you don't earn the said amount.
11. Payment periods:
Affiliates are paid periodically. This can vary from a quarter to biweekly periods. The shorter the time span of payment is, the better for your cash flow. (People are happier if they get their earnings as soon as possible.)
12. Exclusivity:
Some vendors require exclusivity. It means if you decide to join their affiliate program and promote their products you are not allowed to advertise the competition's products. This severely limits your income opportunities.

Increase Your Profits Using An Opt in List
by ShirleyKelly
There are pros and cons to everything we do. To get to the bottom of each, let's first discuss some misconceptions about the use of opt in lists. These marketing misconceptions could pose big obstacles towards you profiting well from your business.
Myth #1: People don't use email
Email marketing is one of the most effective marketing methods nowadays simply because virtually almost all people use email.
Computers use to be used primary by companies or businesses. Now, almost 70% of the worlds population has a home computer or access to one. Just ask Yahoo, Hotmail, or Myspace how many free email accounts they assign on a daily basis.
Myth #2: Email marketing campaigns offend a lot of people
What offends people is receiving email advertisements that they did not agree to receive (known as spamming). Even I get frustrated with my inbox being flooded with offers I have no interest in. Spamming is not what Opt In is all about. Actually, the Opt In list came about to combat spamming.
What is a Opt In list email campaign?
Having an Opt In email list is done when you receive permission from a visitor to receive information about their products or services. Many opt in lists got their start by having a simple "join my mailing list" option posted on your website. If the visitor don't mind receiving further information from you then he or she will enter their name and email address in the appropriate form thereby giving you permission to add them to your opt in list.
In a nutshell, an opt in email list is nothing more than a list of email addresses from people who have given you permission to send them periodic updates on your products or services.
Building An Opt-in List
Building an opt-in list takes time and patience. If done correctly, it could reap big monetary rewards for your business.
Warning: If you don't take the time to establish your list properly, then your efforts will never reach it's full potential. There are many techniques people are using to obtain email addresses. Many of these tactics are questionable and in some cases unethical. I will not be going into detail about any of these methods.
Strategies To Building Your Opt In Email List
1. Strategic Collection of Data
Less is more. Don't bombard visitors with un-necessary questions or ask for personal information you really don't need. With so much fraud going on in the world today, people are reluctant to give out their personal data.
If you can, only ask for a visitors name and email address. In most cases, they don't mind providing this information because it does not intrude into their personal lives.
Asking for their mailing address or phone number can deter many visitor from opting into your list. Get just the basic information (name and email address) first. After you have established some level of trust by way of email campaigns, you can request further information.
2. Good Implementation
Old adage says it all - 'action speaks louder than words'. If you make a promise or statement to get visitors to join your Opt In Email list, then you had better deliver what you promised.
For instance, if you make a promise that they will receive a discount for joining your list, then when they enter their name and email address, be sure they receive their discount instantly or within the time frame you stated to give it to them by.
If you promised a free download product, then immediately after they sign up YOU MUST provide a link for them to download the product.
I can not express to you how important this is. It builds credibility and confidence in your business. If you don't want to be reported as a spammer, then you must establish sound ethical as well as honest business practices.
If you are unsure about whether or not you are using sound business practices, just ask yourself a few questions like: "How would I feel if I was the visitor joining this opt in email list? Am I being treated fairly?" "Would I buy from this company after my experience with them?" "Did they "trick" me into getting my information?"
Different Ways of Establishing An Opt In Email List:
The following are the most widely used methods:
1. Make use of websites.
Websites are an excellent tool for data collation and providing you with relevant info regarding your email offers. Use forms that solicit your visitor's email address and consent.
These are the more popular ways of marketing aiming to lead traffic to one's website. You may want to ask for signups for email services. Make your website more visible through these media. Offering free electronic newsletters or reward programs can do well in making it easy to win the nod of your audiences, too.
3. Maximize Your Sales Force
Customer service associates can help a lot in helping you benefit more from your email correspondence. Sales people with proper education on how to aid you in this endeavor can very well contribute to a higher ROI (rate on investment). Techniques like offering account updates and special programs through email can easily land you those lists of valuable visitors.
4. Don't Make Your Point of Sale Pointless.
Forms for signup located at cash registers and other high-traffic and highly visible spots can be very excellent venues for your business to collect email addresses. Notification of upcoming sales through their email address can coax them to supply you with the information you need.
5. Conferences or Trade Shows Can Work Also
Giveaway offers or entries on sweepstakes are great for opt-in to volunteer their contact details.
Don't Misuse or Abuse Your Visitors Trust!
These tactics should be applied with adequate caution and should focus on earning the trust of those listed on your opt-in list instead of simply collating data for your sole personal benefit.
Always make sure that the forms that you use and other methods that you employ do not necessitate too much fuss to subscribe. The bottom line here is do not annoy visitors during the process of data supplication.
Well, I believe if you apply some, if not all, of the methods outline here, you will have success with obtaining a well established Opt In Email List.
Remember: IT TAKES TIME! So slow down, be patience and continue to follow you dreams.
Don't give up! If at first you don't succeed, TRY, TRY, AGAIN! There is a lot to learn when starting a online business. Give yourself a break and don't set unrealistic goals. Contrary to popular beliefs, having a successful, profit making, online business doesn't happen overnight.

10 Killer Ways To Make Your Online Testimonials More Believeable
Ask people if they would e-mail a picture with their
testimonial. If they don't have one scanned you could have them send their picture by mail and you could scan it. This technique will give your testimonials more credibility.
2. ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES
Most online testimonials you see have text signatures. You could have people mail their written signature, scan it, and upload it with their testimonial. People will feel the testimonial is more official.
3. ONLINE AUDIO
You could record people's testimonials with a mini tape recorder over the phone, on your answering machine, or voice mail. Then you could convert the recording into a online audio file and upload it to your web site.
You can find more information about converting audio
recording's by typing "real audio" at a search engine.
4. POSTCARDS
Have people mail you their testimonial on a postcard, scan it and upload it to your web site. This will give people proof that the testimonial isn't fake because it will have a post mark on it.
Ask people to include a profile of themselves with their testimonial. You could just have them answer some questions like age, occupation, hobbies, favorite quote, etc. This will make your testimonials more entertaining to read.
6. HAND WRITTEN LETTERS
This is similar to the "electronic signature" tip. Scan and upload the entire written testimonial or letter to your web site. This will give your testimonials a feel of realism.
7. RECORDINGS
You could record peoples testimonials over the phone
with a mini tape recorder. Then, take the recording
and record it to an answering machine or voice mail
system. Under each one, include a phone number they
can call to hear the actual testimonial.
8. E-MAIL MESSAGES
When you get e-mail testimonials, publish the entire
e-mail message instead of just the contents. It will be more believable because it will include the date, time, subject, who it's from and who it's to.
9. CONTACT INFORMATION
When you get testimonials from people, ask them if
you could include their contact information under the testimonial. This will allow potential customers to ask your current customers questions about your product or service before they buy. Usually, they will trust them more than you.
10. ONLINE VIDEO
If some of the people who give you testimonials have
a camcorder, ask them to record their testimonial on
video and send it to you. Then you could convert the
video to an online video file and upload it to your site.
You can find more information about converting audio
recording's by typing "real video" at a search engine.

Article Marketing and Duplicate Content %u2013 Is Mass Submission a Killer?
Joshua Spaulding
Today, mass article submission is not nearly effective. As a matter of fact, the search engines look at it as a form of spam. SE's like to see unique, quality content and the same article appearing on hundreds of sites is not unique.
Is mass article submission duplicate content? Actually in Googles eyes, it is not. But, that does not mean it is OK to mass submit and this is why. Google defines duplicate content as the same exact content on the same site. When they come across this there is no penalty, they will just index one of the pages and leave the other out of their index. Since articles are submitted to multiple websites and each page has a different style and layout, it is not duplicate content and many of the pages will get indexed.
So why not mass submit? Although many of your articles will get indexed, they will not receive as much weight in the SE's as they would if they were only submitted to a few authority sites. Is it possible for an article to rank high for a long tail keyword after being mass submitted? Absolutely but that same article would have ranked even higher if it were only submitted to the top few sites.
There are many factors that must be calculated in order to conduct a successful article marketing campaign. Hopefully I have laid one rumor to rest and you can use this newly obtained information to help better serve your home business.
