Lifetime Fitness - Is It Downhill All the Way After 40?

 

How many times have you heard someone say, "After you hit 40,
it's downhill all the way"? Really? Is that true?

People I've known have been active even into their 80's, hiking, playing tennis, kayaking,,and looking fantastic! There is no need to be less fit because you've turned 40.

Just pay a little attention to keeping fit. Sure, the
body ages -- but when you take some care of it, it can age perfectly well. You can actually have more energy and be in better shape than you were in your younger years, because you stopped smoking, got some good sleep and regularly exercise.

There's a fantastic book called "Fit Over 40". The author is in
far better shape now than he was in his 30s. Go see for yourself:

As you can see, there's no reason to give up on your fitness after you reach a certain age. With a little attention, your later years can be even more pleasurable than your early years.

Lifetime Fitness: Burn the Fat! 

It's for you to decide to get your body mobile and limber, and exercise it, to burn off the excess fat, despite your health condition. By giving your body the food and exercise it needs it will respond and the fat will burn away while the muscles become firm and tight, while giving you the love-handle free body you want.

Foods that are high in fiber and protein are the best kinds of food to eat if you want to burn fat around your waistline and tone your abs. If you are into serious body building or just want to shed that excess fat, what is the best exercise?

Eat the right kind of carbs. While carbohydrates are important for providing energy and giving your body the ability to burn fat, you must choose the right carbs.

Dietary fat is very slow burning in the body so when you replace the fat with faster burning carbs you tend to feel less energetic, risk burning muscle tissue, and wreak havoc on your metabolism and hormones because your energy levels (blood sugar) are like a roller coaster.

When to work out? Exercising in the morning is particularly good because aside from burning more fat and having increased energy levels during the day, you will have your workout out of the way and not have to do it after a long day at work.

Lifetime Fitness: Sleep to Lose Weight! 

Being active is the right way to burn off the fat, but you also need the right amount of rest. The good news is that to lose weight you need a good 8 hours of sleep.

This all goes back to when our ancestors were living in caves. Then, food was not easy to come by -- especially during the cold winter months. So, the human body developed a seasonal system.

During the summer, when nights were short, certain hormones kicked in to boost the appetite and put on the fat. This allowed early humans to survive through the lean winter months, by living off fat stores.

Nowadays, with 24-hour supermarkets and fast food outlets everywhere, we no longer need this system -- but, our bodies don't evolve that fast. So, when you sleep only a few short hours, your body's hormones kick in -- up goes the appetite and on goes the fat. So, make sure you get a good, healthy 8 hours of sleep and keep the fat away.

With your new exercise routine, you should be getting a better night's sleep. But, if you're one of those who has a hard time nodding off for a good 8 hours, here's a great remedy:
