Monitored Home Alarm Systems

Do you really need a Monitored Home Security Solution? For many people, moving from locked doors to a home alarm system is the first step, but many of he monitoring ocmpanies expect you to use their hardware, so make sure you investigate the monitoring company BEFORE you go out and spend money on a burglar alarm system.

Monitored Home Alarm Systems

Learn more about home alarm monitoring

Monitored home alarm systems are a great way to provide a feeling of security and safety for your home and family. Alarm systems that are monitored are available for both the newer wireless systems and also for the standard hard-wired setups, and are dependent on reliable connections to in order to communicate with the central monitoring center.

The cost of buying the equipment and installing an alarm system varies greatly depending on how elaborate a system is needed to properly secure your home, and depending on whether you attempt a do-it-yourself installation or call in the professionals to install. Monitored systems generally also have a monthly service fee in addition to the equipment and installation costs.

The monthly monitoring service will likely be part of the contract with the package deal if you purchase the bundle of equipment with the installation, which is a common arrangement. It is wise to read your contract carefully to see if you are locked into a specific monitoring service, and for how long, as this could be a problem if you are not happy with the quality of service they provide.

While there are a number of competing alarm monitoring services, some monitored home alarm systems must use the monitor service that is provided by the company that sells the equipment, making it impossible to shop around for the best deal in this type of service. So in this regard, it is beneficial to ask questions and carefully understand the contract before agreeing to installation.

Whenever your security system is triggered, the base station of your security system will send a signal, usually via a landline phone, to the monitoring facility and indicates what type of problem the sensor or sensors in your home are detecting. Depending on the type of the problem being reported, and whether the a dispatcher can make telephone contact with the home owner or not, the monitoring facility will take the necessary steps to notify authorities and have emergency services dispatched to your home if the situation calls for it.

Depending on a landline does present some inherent difficulties in that if phone service in the area is out, or if the line has been tampered with by an intruder, or damaged due to fire, there will be no way your home security system to communicate with the central monitoring agency.

Two options have recently been introduced to address that concern. One is a cellular based system that uses a dedicated wireless connection to assure the communications between your monitored home alarm system and the monitoring center, and the second is a broadband monitoring service that uses your broadband internet to connect with monitoring services. Technology is rapidly changing the standards in this area, so be sure to ask questions about the latest and best communication solutions.

Protecting Your Home with Home Security Alarm Systems

Home Security

So many wonderful things are coming into our lives these days as technology quickly brings us new conveniences and advancements. With so much positive happening around us it is too bad that there is also more need than ever to make home security a priority in our lives. However, it is encouraging to know that there are many simple tips and tricks that you can implement around your home that are actually very effective tools in improving security and deterring crime. Home security research is key to finding a cost effective solution.

Alarm monitoring is usually set up for you at the time you purchase your alarm system and have it installed. It is typically charged on a monthly basis, for as long as you have the service. You will want to check the fine print of the contract with your alarm company to see if you are required to use their monitoring service for a specified period of time. Some companies charge less for the equipment and installation, and hide some of their costs in the monthly monitoring fees.

The basic function of your monitoring service is to be immediately and automatically notified by your system when a problem happens in your home, such as when a protected entrance has been breached and the alarm code is not properly entered in a given amount of time. With most systems you can also have your home monitored for fire and also carbon monoxide as optional services, if the proper equipment has been installed. Some systems also include panic buttons on the control panels allowing the user to call for help if there is an emergency or if someone is attempting to break into the house.

When the system is triggered, a signal is sent to the home security systems monitoring service which in turn quickly attempts to contact the owner of the alarm, or secondary contacts that have been listed, in order to determine if it is a true emergency situation, a false alarm, or some type of equipment malfunction. Based on whether contact is able to be established with the owner, and the type of alarm message they are receiving from your home unit, the monitoring center will determine if emergency services need to be contacted to have police, fire or medical services dispatched to the premises.

Every burglar has two primary enemies: light and sound. Strategic placement of outdoor lighting, especially near entrances, can be a very effective deterrent. Interior lights are also helpful. There is no need for bright lighting in every room, but even a little light will make a burglar think twice before trying to enter your home. Monitored home security does not have to be a big or expensive undertaking. One of the best home security measures is to be sure that your landscaping does not invite unwanted intruders by giving them good spots where they can hide and plan their entrance to your home. Keeping bushes near entry areas trimmed and adding some lighting to entries are major. Simple home security research maybe simple, but effective steps to increasing the security of your home don't have to cost alot of money.
