The Phenomenology of Internal Time-Consciousness
Quite simply the BIBLE of phenomenology and consciousness thought. If you think you have thought about the `issues' of mind and matter -- think again -- unless you have read this very very rare book. Husserl thought out the ideas of Phenomenology in the late 1800's and to this very day you can find people meeting in groups to discuss these mammoth ideas. The Inflationary Universe
Is this the heaviest book written in the last 50 years? I'd say it could be. What else could possibly be heavier than being the first person to actually `figure out' all the most perplexing astronomy data -- and then to --- `explain it' to the rest of the scientists in the world. Yes, this is the man who figured out the `problem' with the BIG BANG -- and thought of the solution. The solution was INFLATION. Those amazing moments next to creation that included the notion that `space' can expand `quicker' than the speed of light. Indeed, if Guth is right (and one experiment after another has confirmed inflation) the universe we live in is huge in a manner that you have probably never even considered. For example, you may know that the `edge' of our VISIBLE universe is about 13.7 billion years away -- however, BEYOND that `visible edge' lies OUR SAME UNIVERSE -- we simply can't see it (and never will) -- but it is there with stars and worlds just like `here' in our visible portion. But, get this, that `unseen portion' of our universe is TRILLIONS AND TRILLIONS times the size of our `visible' portion. Yes, you need this book -- how can you say NO to the heaviest book of the 1900's? Heavy Rating 10+.

Journey To Ixtlan
In the 1970's a student at UCLA wrote of his meetings with an Indian medicine man and sorcerer. These meetings involved gaining the actual understanding of the sorcerer's worldview. This worldview supposedly led Castaneda into a `separate reality' on occasion. These separate realities of the sorcerer included everyday phenomena and entities which lived in the special reality. Other special realities included controlled lucid dreaming - often described by researchers as a different mind state. This is NOT a book you want to say that you've NEVER read - a must read selection. Heavy Rating 10+

Another very rare book -- you'd NEVER run across this out of print in the store so here is your chance. If you have ever wondered about the many various `types of time' -- this is your book. Most interesting are the chapters devoted to the very idea of FREEWILL and DETERMINISM and their relation to time and dimensional time. Can any time be real that isn't here now? This is the book if you want the speculative answers. Heavy Rating - 10.

The Way of Zen
Here's my bow to religion on earth for humans -- and, indeed, it's very heavy. It seems non-attachment is a universal theme in alot of esoteric thought -- you won't find a better writer on the subject than the late Alan Watts. This is Zen Buddhism at it's very best. If you lean to the spirtitual side this might be for you. Heavy Rating - 10.

Critical Path
Many folks feel that `Bucky' Buckminster Fuller was the greatest thinker of the 1900's. If you have never seen his world map without distortion - you haven't seen the world in true proportion. Bucky was such a great thinker that a type of CARBON is named after him -- is there a greater honor than that. You must be familiar with this book and some of his greatest ideas. Heavy Rating - 10.

Hunt for the Skinwalker: Science Confronts the Unexplained at a Remote Ranch in Utah
A recent book which explores some `oddities' in Utah in the mid 1990's. Huge oddities. Of every type. That suggest that the multi-verse may be an answer for the unexplainable anomalies. Co-written by a TV reporter still active in Las Vegas, this is a well documented book. Very enjoyable and a fairly quick read for `heavy ideas'. Heavy Rating - 9+

- Houdini's Message From Beyond
- To many humans, but not all, the survival after death issue is paramount to existance here on Earth. It predicates how many folks believe/feel about the idea of a God.
While I'm sure that nearly 100% of you have heard of Houdini before (as an escape artist/performer) perhaps not all of you were aware of his great desire to humiliate all those of his era who belived in `contacting spirits' of those who have died. Nor, are you all probably aware of how much coverage this issue actually got in your daily newspaper or how prolific the whole `palm reading' thing was in the early 1900's.
All that said, Houdini made a pact with his wife to get her a message with a code if there was `life after death'. Literally, scores of folks claimed to have gotten the message and she was continuously having to say NO -- that is not it. Coined in 1922 by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin SJ (1881-1955), in association with Edouard Le Roy and Vladimir Vernadsky, the word and notion of the NOO-SPHERE were introduced to the English-speaking world by Vernadsky's paper on "The Biosphere and the Noosphere" published in 1945 in "American Scientist" (Vol.33, pp.1-12). In "Fundamentals of Ecology" (1962:26; 1971:35) Eugene Odum said, "This is dangerous philosophy, because it is based on the assumption that mankind is now wise enough to safely take over the management of everything!" Harry Houdini and his exposure of the fraud spiritualist, spirit photography, spirit slate writing, ectoplasm, clairvoyance, and other quakery and cons perpetrated on the gullible, by the likes of the Boston Medium Margery, the Davenport Brothers, Annie Eva Fay, the Fox Sisters, Daniel Dunglas Home, Eusapia Pallandino, and other con artists of their ilk.
The whole country got excited by Houdini's campaign against faking spiritualists. He careened through the country, offering money for spirit contacts he couldn't duplicate by admitted magical chicanery. It was a heyday not only for Houdini but for the spirit-callers and there was an equally famous protagonist who thought the spirits could indeed be contacted, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A photo at the front records a meeting between Houdini and Doyle and Houdini gives Doyle his own chapter. There's an earlier chapter on Daniel Dunglas Home, the English engineer of spectacular paranormal effects. Houdini raises hell with spiritualists who were giving their (usually paying) clients a vision of heavens to come, and shares the methods used to practice "fake" and sensational spiritualism.
Houdini was nothing if not unrelenting. As a taste of things to come, he ends his introduction with the words: "Up to the present time everything that I have investigated has been the result of deluded brains."

When the Impossible Happens: Adventures in Non-ordinary Reality
I just finished this book (1-24) and found it very interesting. Dr Grof is certainly one of the worlds leading investigators of LSD (when it was legal) and other substances said to teleport one into a different `level'. He literally has been doing research for 50 years and when doing the research has had events occur that seem and read beyond belief. That said, for me, only an event or two rose to the `Impossible' - in my opinion. Also, if you have an interest in the esoteric and consciousness issues from karma onward - this may be a book of interest to you. Finally, if Carl Sagen is a hero of yours - do not read the chapter about him.

Hidden Truth: Forbidden Knowledge
Steven Greer. You know his name. He's the doctor/person who personally has interviewed over 400 folks in the government about UFO's. Now, in this book, he tells of his personal experiences with the aliens. Steven says this is not fiction. Very interesting. (Update) I've now read this book - OMG - this book will extend your vision into how weird the UFO saga might actually be. Could all the secrecy really be about getting the edge with back engineering the UFO technology (which then became a shadow world gov't). Seems plausable. The book also IMHO positions Greer as a `guru' of sorts; which again -- just might be the case. Make sure to pick this book up at some point.
