Are you looking at the most dangerous woman in the world?
Mary Mallon has on occasion been called the most dangerous woman in the world! Why? Because she was an asymptomatic carrier of Salmonella typhi. The organisms colonized in her body, without causing sickness in her- but making her constantly "contagious". Mary was employed as a cook, and through the food that she cooked and served, she infected a large number of people, many of whom died. Her biggest problem was that she refused to believe that she could make people sick, when she was not sick herself. After being told by the authorities that she couldn't work as a cook, she did go for a while trying to survive doing jobs other than cooking. Eventually, though, she got another job as a cook using a fake name, and caused yet another outbreak!
